Ghoulia is having a gender tantrum.
Usborne have been in a shitstorm for this sexist bullcrap, and supposedly they won’t be doing this any more. What ticks me off though, is that they thought it was ok in the first fricken place. That boy book looks so much more interesting though. Lookat them robots and ghosts and monster trucks and shit. Girls get.. flowers.. butterflies and… stars? LAME.
THE MORE YOU KNOW…!
Thanks, that’s great news! To be totally fair, Usborne does also have a gender neutral doodling book—but that hardly makes up for this business. Unfortunately, in Ghoulia’s experience, this intense gendering of toys/arts and crafts is an all-too-common phenomenon. It’s not that Ghoulia doesn’t want to don a sparkly dress and wings sometimes, but princesses and pink are presented as the only option for girls by so many toy companies (with a few notable exceptions). What about girl pirates and knights? What about adventurers and policewomen and race car drivers? WHAT ABOUT WORLD-SAVING LADY SUPERHEROES AND THEIR WORLD-SAVING LADY SUPERHERO FRIENDS?
